How to install Fringe Protectors

Before applying the Fringe protector, test the adhesive in an inconspicuous spot of the rug (on the back part of the rug’s end) first, especially if you have a delicate rug, to make sure it doesn’t leave any residue when removed.

To install the Fringe Protector:

1. Prepare the Rug:

Lay the rug flat on the floor, ensuring the fringes are straight and untangled.

If the rug’s end where the fringe starts has any dirt or dust on it, use a vacuum or a clean cloth to gently wipe it and its surrounding area. The surface should be clean and dry before applying the adhesive tape.

2. Measure the Fringe Length

Measure the length of the fringes at both ends of the rug to make sure the length of the Fringe Protector fits the width of the carpet where the fringe is.

You can cut the Fringe Protector accordingly, adding 2 to 4 inches to the measured length you need in case you need to make adjustments later on.

3. Apply the Tape to the back of the Rug:

First, fold your rug’s fringe end over the rug (for about 10 inches) and keep it in place as best you can using a couple of heavy books. If possible, it would be helpful to have someone assist with this.

Comb the fringe straight as best as you can using your hand or a thick comb.

Peel one side of the Fringe Protector tape bit by bit and leaving a 1-2 inch margin start laying the Fringe

Protector tape-side to the rug’s end along the edge of the rug. Do this slowly and carefully to ensure the adhesive sticks to the rug and doesn’t get dirt or debris on it. Press down firmly as you apply the tape to ensure it sticks well. Smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles as you go along.

Continue until you reach the end of the rug. You should have 1-2 inches of leftover Fringe Protector.

4. Apply the Tape to the front of the Rug:

Unfold the rug with the fringe protector applied on its back flat on the floor.

Once again comb the fringe straight as best as you can using your hand or a thick comb.

Peel the other side of the Fringe Protector tape bit by bit and apply the tape along the edge of the rug. Keep moving slowly and press down firmly as you apply the tape to ensure it sticks well. Smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles as you go along.

5. Tuck in or Sew and Trim Excess Tape (if needed):

After the Fringe Protector is applied, you may tuck the excess mesh at the ends of the fringe inwards to close the ends, or if you’re craftier, use scissors to trim any extra mesh and sew the ends creating a clean finished seam.

6. Press and Let Set:

Press the entire taped area one more time to ensure it adheres well. Allow the tape to set for a few minutes before walking on the rug or moving it.

7. Check for Secure Attachment:

Ensure that the tape has adhered securely to the fringes. If necessary, press down again on any spots that may have lifted.

How to remove Fringe Protectors

To remove Fringe Protectors from your rug, all you have to do is gently remove the adhesive ends of the Fringe Protector from the front and back of the rug.

The tape may feel stronger depending on the humidity of your home’s environment, and how long the strips have been installed for. You can use a steamer to gently apply a bit of warm (not hot) steam to loosen the adhesive and make the removal easier.

Important tips:

'- Avoid placing heavy furniture directly on the fringes, even with the Fringe Protector installed, to ensure the protector lasts longer.

- Regularly check the tape to ensure it is still securely attached and replace it if it starts to wear out.
